How To Get to Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is an island located in the Gulf of Thailand.  There isn’t an airport located on the island – the closest airport is in Koh Samui and many international flights go direct to Samui or via transfer in Bangkok or Phuket.

Budget and domestic airlines land at Surat Thani airport. Surat Thani is located on the mainland and combination bus/boat tickets are available to Koh Phangan.

Surat Thani to Koh Phangan

Surat Thani is the closest city on the Thai mainland. Several low cost airlines fly into Surat Thani direct from the domestic airport in Bangkok (on the other side of town from the international airport).  Air Asia and Nok Air both sell an all-in-one ticket that includes your boat ticket and a transfer from the airport to the ferry.
Lion Air also flies to Surat Thani from Bangkok.  If you arrive at the airport without a ferry ticket, you will be able to purchase in the arrivals hall.

It takes approximately 1 hour to transfer from Surat Thani airport to the pier. The speed of the boat trip from the mainland ranges from 1 hour 15 mins to 3 hours, depending on the boat company you sail with.  This journey is longer but is much cheaper than flying direct to Samui.
